The Environment Ministry has chosen Torrox for the site of Axarquía’s second marina, considering it to be the most suitable of the four locations which were proposed by the Andalucía Ports Authority, the APPA.

The site is on the beach at Calaceite, to the west of Vilches Beach, and is close to Torrox’s border with its neighbouring municipality of Nerja.

The Ministry noted in its report to the Ports Authority that a previous study in 2009 had recommended a position to the west of Vilches as the least negative location for the beach itself.
The Socialist Mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz, described the decision as magnificent news for the area and fundamental for revitalising the local economy.

The APPA can now go ahead with commissioning the project for the new marina.
