Malaga FC continues to make football history

Malaga football club seem to have no limits this season as they continue to break records in the Champions league and in the Spanish football league.

They have played 5 unbeaten games so far in Champions, two against Panathinaikos in order to qualify (1 draw and 1 win), and three games in the championship. They have won all 3 group games, scored 7 goals without receiving one!… and are clear leaders with 5 points difference to 7 times European champions, Milan! Malaga is only one of four teams ever to achieve such an impressive debut in the Champions league.

They are third in La Liga in Spain, only behind Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid, and ahead of Real Madrid.

Only three months ago Malaga was facing a very uncertain future as their owner Abdullah Al Ahmed Al Thani sold off some of their star players and threatened to sell the club as well. Since then, with the fantastic results that Malaga has achieved, the owner was present at La Rosaleda this week to witness Malaga’s historic 1-0 win over Milan. With probably just one more point from the three remaining group games, Malaga can qualify for the last sixteen.

All of their homes games are a sell-out. The local merchandisers outside of the ground now report record sales of Malaga’s kit, scarves and souvenirs, well ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid!

Malaga fans can’t believe it as they see their team having the most successful season ever in their history. It’s also good for the image of Malaga… Spread the word!

Malaga FC to play Panathinaikos in the play-off for Champions

This morning’s draw for the Champions league play-off sees Málaga pitched against Panathinaikos in a 2-way leg starting in Málaga with the return match in Athens.

Given all the bad and unsettling news coming out of the club in recent days, this is by no means an easy match. Santi Cazorla has gone to Arsenal and their main forward, Rondon, to Rubin Kazan and Mathijsen may be transferred to Feyenoord. Furthermore, players have not been paid and their manager, Pellegrini, has stated that he will stay on for another season only if all players get paid what’s owed to them.

Málaga had a great end to last season, finishing in a Champion’s place in the Spanish league, and looking forward to what could be the best possible season in the history of the club. However, things have not gone well for the owner of the club who apart from his 5 year project to make Málaga a championship winning side, has had disappointments with other projects in the province including a new sporting complex and stadium for the club and a marina project in Marbella. Local planning laws and permissions have been slow in coming through together with reported personal financial problems for the owner of Málaga football club.

Certainly, the fans will feel that they have been let down, but let’s hope that reported new signings around the corner come to fruition and Málaga can approach the new season with confidence.

UPDATE:

Tickets for the Champions game are on sale from August 17th at the Rosaleda. Non-season ticket holders may purchase them from Saturday for prices ranging between 35 and 90 euros.

Bollywood comes to Nerja!

The Indian cinema industry has taken note of Nerja and is going to film scenes in the town for future Bollywood film productions.

According to Bernardo Pozuelo, the council member for tourism in Nerja, an Indian film crew will be in Nerja during August. Film locations are apparently still being studied. The scenes are expected to involve colourful dance groups, very typical of Bollywood film sets. Other locations have also been chosen in Andalucía such as Seville and Marbella.

Interest from India in Spain has been inspired by a recent film, a couple of years ago, titled “You Only Live Once”, a story of three visitors on holiday to Spain, which received 7 nominations in the Bollywood Oscars. A song in the film, a rumba called “Señorita” sung by María del Mar Fernández was a huge hit in India.

The demand for filming in Nerja is constant, from film sets to adverts, documentaries, video clips and holiday television programs.

Malaga airport inaugurates its second runway

Malaga airport’s second runway has finally opened, which will increase the capacity to deal with 65 flights an hour instead of 37, with just one runway.

The runway was opened on Tuesday by the government minister, Ana Pastor. She pledged that this investment in Malaga and the Costa del Sol was capable of generating 15 billion Euros in the surrounding areas. There is no doubt that this now makes Malaga’s airport one of the finest on mainland Spain, only behind those of Madrid and Barcelona.

The airport authorities will only use the second strip when required, especially in summer, but may be used much less in winter until demand picks up.

The mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, also reminded the minister of the pending AVE high speed train link from Malaga centre to the airport, which would make Malaga one of the best transport hubs in southern Spain.

San Juan Fiesta

Synonymous as the shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere, the famous San Juan Fiesta comes around again coinciding with the week-end on the Eve of the fiesta on Saturday 23rd June.

Although celebrated throughout Spain, it has a much greater significance on the coast as everybody heads for the beach with their tents, BBQ’s, sound systems and enough food and drink to last a week!

There exists many traditions surrounding this special night, the most popular and practical though are those of jumping over the lit fires and making a special wish whilst dipping into the sea at midnight.

The party goes on all night, right around to breakfast and the entire following day. It’s a great spectacle and one of the many Spanish fiestas where everybody can join in. It’s also the only day in the year when local authorities allow camping overnight on the beach.

You’ll see partying along all the beaches east of Malaga through Torrox and Nerja (with Live music on the Burriana Beach from 10.00 pm.) and onto Almuñecar and Motril, and you’ll need to get their early to book a space on the beach!

Home Staging improves your chance of selling or renting your property

The way to sell or rent your house FASTER and for a BETTER price

A good presentation of a property is essential for a quick sale or rental.

Statistics show that potential buyers make up their mind within the first 60 seconds of entering a property.  They need to imagine themselves living in the house that they visit.

The following points will assist you to prepare your property for sale or rental in a way that allows potential buyers to have an immediate reaction and to “fall in love with the house”. It should also help you to attract more potential visitors / buyers.

Preparing your property for sale or for rent:

- Thorough cleaning – a dirty kitchen or bathroom gives a very bad impression. It is also important to remember to clean the windows (letting in more light).

- Lighting – Open curtains and turn on lights in darker areas.

- Depersonalize to create a neutral environment – by packing away personal items, toys, photos etc. It is important that the potential buyer can imagine themselves living in the property.

- Uncluttering – take away clothes and personal items to create the impression of space.

- Create a positive first impression from the entrance of the house.

- Use neutral colours – there are many different tastes out there, but it is best to have the property as neutral as possible so that the majority of visitors feel comfortable in the environment.

- A nice smell helps to give a good impression – Put scented flowers, candles or fresh air fragrances in rooms.

- Minor improvements or repairs - such as ‘touch up’ painting, repairs to flooring etc.

- The outside – it’s not just the inside of the property that is important but also the terrace, patio and garden areas.

These points can make your home look bigger, brighter, more inviting and create a better first impression.  Remember, you are trying to sell or rent a property and not your home!

- Photography – Perhaps the most important consideration is that of good photographs. And it’s not just about the camera, it’s the photographer! Many estate agents fail in this department. Some use professional photographers. Others actually get it right. Whoever you use, ensure that the property is projected in the best possible manner.
