Built by its original owners whose vision was to create an oasis of calm and tranquillity that was fully sustainable and self sufficient, surrounded by magnificent countryside of orange and lemon orchards, olive trees, mountains and valleys, and to personally cater for guests wishing to stay and enjoy the delights of this holiday haven.

Perceived from eleven years of living in Spain, the owners embarked upon the project, designed and overseen by them, which was finally completed and opened to the public in 2011. The trials and tribulations of such a project were made apparent in the very early stages by them having to sack their first architect, as he failed to comply with their designs, and also their first lawyer, as he was inclined to side with the local village mayor as how best obtain the various and numerous permissions…

The owners soldiered on and engaged a new team, completed the property and despite all the Spanish bureaucracy, gained all the necessary permits through the proper channels for it to open as a top class rural, ecological guest house and catering centre, obtaining the highest possible rural category from the regional government, the Junta de Andalucia.

The property commands magnificent views across the Lecrin valley, situated 30 minutes drive south of the famous city of Granada in southern Spain, and benefits from the protection and backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, snow capped in winter, yet is only 2.5 kms. from the main motorway running from Granada down to the beaches and the Costa Tropical, just 20 minutes south.

Part of the adventure of staying here is the approach to the house when leaving the motorway as you wander and meander through narrow country lanes, orchards and small villages to suddenly discover, as you mount the last small hilltop, the panoramic and sensational location of La Finca del Castillo Arabe.

 

 

 

PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

On arrival at the Finca, it sits at the top of a south facing valley with commanding panoramic views to the mountains including the Sierra Nevada range to the north. With a land area of 34.000m2 bordering on the National Park, it offers utter peace, tranquility and total privacy.

The house, which comfortably sleeps 12+, is designed so that all rooms and terraces have views south over the citrus and olive groves and villages of the Historic Lecrin Valley. It is built on two, cream-tiled floors and each have ground level access. The porched main entrance opens into a large entrance hall with its spectacular windows and views. From here is access to the spacious open plan sitting room, dining room and library, the licensed professional kitchen, the office and one large suite with bedroom and sitting areas and dressing room area (with wardrobes), en suite wetroom and private terrace with views. The professional kitchen has two large basement storage rooms (for catering equipment). There are two large terraces from this floor – again with fabulous views to the valley. A central staircase leads to the lower floor comprising three individual spacious suites, each with a double bedroom, lounge-dining area, bathroom and private terrace overlooking the valley. Additionally on this floor there is a large laundry and storage room and a second kitchen-breakfast room (for guest use), a further large ground floor terraces, patio and gardens. Each suite is also wired and plumbed for its own kitchenette. There is the opportunity to easily create two further separate bedrooms within two of the existing suites. The house is fully double glazed and centrally heated.

The immediate grounds consist of a large swimming pool with sunbathing areas, shower, garden and stunning views. A large wooden chalet – ‘The Summer Kitchen’ – containing a large wood-burning oven, BBQ and paella burners, gas hobs and electric oven – currently used as the Cookery School and for alfresco entertaining. Landscaped formal gardens, vegetable gardens and a secure utility area. Over 30 terraces planted with a large variety of fruit trees and many more terraces left uncultivated and covered with wild lavender, rosemary, thyme, fennel and rocket.

The entire property is “off-grid”, meaning that it is totally self sufficient for its electricity and water heating. Electricity is provided by a combination of solar panels and a back-up generator which is housed in the “Energy Control Room”. This also provides central heating to the house. Drinking water is piped and metered from the local village, whilst irrigation water comes from the Canal Real de Reigo.

There is generous open air parking, more than sufficient for guests or for catering events, including weddings.

All licenses for the construction and on-going business activities are fully in order including the highest accolade from the regional government, the Junta de Andalucia, as a “Superior” rating for rural tourism, equivalent to 5 stars in the hotel industry.

The property is offered for sale at the advertised price fully equipped enabling a purchaser to continue this ongoing and licensed business. The property also has a 10 year builders guarantee.
