Alicante is the capital of the Costa Blanca on the Spanish Mediterranean coast and the second largest port within the autonomous region of Valencia, with a population of around 340.000.
With its International airport, it services all year round tourism to the towns and villages along its coastline. Due to its mild climate it’s a vibrant town all year round, welcoming a host of International tourists in summer and winter residents in the off season, many of which are attracted to the popular towns of Benidorm, Calpe, Denia and Torrevieja.
The city of Alicante has a wonderful promenade – El Paseo de la Explanada – running parallel to its white, sandy beaches – La Playa de San Juan, fashionable shops, top hotels, the marina and sailing club offering great sea food restaurants and tapas bars, and a new tram system to get around easily. For culture fans there are museums, art galleries, the Santa Barbara castle overlooking the city, 16th century churches, and parks to explore. For nightlife lovers, visit El Barrio for a great array of discos and pubs and various venues offering live music.
Try a trip also to the Island of Tobarc, a Protected Marine Reserve, situated 11 miles south-east of Alicante, which is ideal for a weekend break and is accessible by boat from Alicante, Santa Pola and Torrevieja.
Alicante is also a university town offering in summer a variety of Spanish courses for foreigners. A Congress and Trade Fair Centre host International exhibitions and conferences for trade and industry including an Automobile and Caravanning Fair and the Mediterranean Tourism and Hotel Trade Fair (MEDITUR).
Travelling to Alicante is easy with its airport, served by major European budget airlines, the Euromed train service that runs to Barcelona and France, linking at Valencia with the high speed AVE to Madrid, the AP-7 coastal motorway, and national and International bus routes. And of course, its port with ferry services to the Balearic Islands.
